"a million different loves!?"

queer film festival + conference in łódź (18.-22.10.06) + leipzig (25.-29.10.06)

"a million different loves!?" examines the conditions, possibilities and expressions of audio-visual queer culture in different political and social contexts. the project is organised by people form łódź (poland) and leipzig (germany) and seeks to create an exchange of positions in art, science and queer politics on an international level, focusing in particular on the situation in poland and the federal republic of germany. part of the project are an international queer film festival, the "the politics of body and desire in audio-visual culture" conference, an exhibition and a party organized by homoelektrik. the festival will take place with overlapping topics and time periods in both cities in late october 2006 and aims at working intensively with the respective local (sub)cultural structures.

film festival >>> while lesbian-bi-gay film festivals have been around for several decades in the federal republic of germany, in lódz "a million different loves!?" marks the first ever international queer film festival in poland! however, even in germany art and film events with a strictly queer focus are still an exception. the programme of the festival is international, and developed collaboratively by activists from lódz and leipzig, as well as guest curators from other countries.

conference >>> presentations concerned with queer theory by international guests will accompany the festival. the conference will cover issues such as: how do film makers, media artists and academics deal with culturally reinforced models of hetero- as well as homo-normativity or homophobia? how are these practices of exclusion exposed and deconstructed in the arts? how is the (visual) discourse of deviant sexualities, bodies and identities which defy the clear definition as either male or female, as single or couple, formed? in how far are the everyday tools of queer actions such as performance, contextualisation, differentiation and subjectification employed in audio-visual and academic production?

blog >>> gives opportunity to browse and comment german translations of polish online publications. the blog is a reaction to the increasing instrumentalisation of lesbian-bi-gay/queer lifestyles as a negative social formation in the policies of the national-conservative/clerical polish government.
